Process and Systems Upgrades

If you have a specialized upgrade project at your facility, you could be eligible for Process and Systems Upgrades incentives.

Implement innovative process changes to your business to help increase competitiveness, reduce electricity use and grow your savings.

Process and Systems Upgrades program update

Changes are coming to the Process and Systems Upgrades program in order to support both distribution and transmission connected customers.

Updated information on program requirements will be made available May 1.  If you would like to participate in the program or have questions on the upcoming changes contact ProcessAndSystemsUpgrades@ieso.ca.
If you are a transmission-connected customer, please contact your Business Adviser for more information.

Engineering Feasibility Study

Develop a business case for energy-efficiency projects you want to undertake and identify potential capital incentive project opportunities that may exist. Engineering feasibility studies find the opportunities that exist within systems that aren’t running properly, are using inefficient equipment or need optimization.

How it works

Incentives for engineering feasibility studies are available once you’ve identified opportunities and determine energy savings and project costs. The study will determine the base case energy usage of your current system, and will propose energy-saving opportunities or technologies you could implement.

Additionally, the study will identify project incentive opportunities that might exist for the system, help build a capital investment business case for the process efficiency improvements and support a Process & Systems Project Incentive.

Project Incentives

Project incentives are available for a variety of energy-saving projects. Whether you are installing variable frequency drives on your motors, generating electricity from waste energy recovery or redesigning your entire system, there is an incentive available.

Project incentive comparison

Project incentives are designed for very large process and system energy efficiency projects. The following table compares Process & Systems Project Incentives to Retrofit program incentives.

Project incentive Retrofit program
Project type Large scale projects that require engineering design to optimize overall processes and systems.

Equipment replacement projects for energy-efficiency technology such as lighting and lighting controls, HVAC and VFDs.

Measurement and Verification (M&V) terms One year Less than one year
Payment terms A) Advance payment:
50 per cent paid upon approval; balance after project completion and M&V.

B) Deferred payment: Payments are made after project completion and M&V.
Payment is made after any applicable M&V has been completed in addition to Retrofit program payment requirements.
