Why this matters for your BIA
Energy-efficiency upgrades can help small businesses lower energy use, reduce maintenance and operating costs and create more comfortable spaces for employees and customers.
Eligible businesses can receive up to $5,500 in direct-install incentives for eligible upgrades through the Small Business Program. As a BIA, supporting your members is simple: help raise awareness of the program and connect local businesses with available energy-saving opportunities.
What the program offers
Free on-site assessment
Businesses can apply to schedule a free on-site assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities.
Up to $3,000 for lighting upgrades
Businesses can upgrade eligible lighting equipment.
Up to $2,500 for non-lighting upgrades
Businesses can upgrade refrigeration and smart thermostats.
Eligibility
Businesses across Ontario with an operating capacity of 50 or fewer employees may qualify, including:

Retail stores

Medical and pharmaceutical services

Food and hospitality services

Grocery and specialty food stores

Pet and grooming services
-
Automotive repair services
Businesses can own or lease their space. Tenants must obtain consent from their landlord and/or building owner to participate.
Note: Certain upgrades that exceed $3,000 for lighting measures and $2,500 for non-lighting measures may qualify for additional incentives (refer to the Eligible Measures List for all upgrades available).

Schedule a free on-site assessment
Interested businesses can call 1-833-825-7283 or visit the Small Business Program web page to book an assessment and identify the energy-saving opportunities available to them.
Review available upgrades
Following the assessment, eligible businesses will receive recommendations for energy-efficient upgrades available at no cost.
Complete the installation
Qualified delivery partners will handle the entire installation process on the business’s behalf from start to finish, including coordinating contractors, scheduling, installation and cleanup.
Peak Perks for Small Businesses
Small businesses in your community may also be eligible for Peak Perks, which rewards homes and businesses for reducing their energy use during periods of high electricity demand on the hottest summer days. They’ll receive a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard® when they enroll and a $20 virtual prepaid Mastercard® each year they continue to participate.
Smart thermostat incentives are jointly incented by both Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas where applicable. If you’re a small business and an Enbridge Gas customer, you may qualify to take advantage of even more energy-efficient measures. Click here to learn more.
