New! To ensure our training courses keep pace with the latest developments in the energy-efficiency sector, we recently expanded our roster to include nine new courses focused on energy management, building energy modelling, decarbonization, efficient electrification, heat pumps and more. Through a collaboration with Enbridge, we offer incentives of up to 75 percent of course fees for three of these courses.
How to apply
Step 1: Check the eligibility requirements for the courses you want to take to see if you qualify for our training incentives below.
Step 2: Complete the training course with one of the approved training providers.
Step 3: Submit your application to efficiency.training@ieso.ca within three months of completing a course. Be sure to include the following:
- Completed application form
- Invoice with participant name, course provider, date, cost and location
- Evidence of successful course completion or certification

This course is for organizations undertaking decarbonization activities to meet their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals and comply with emissions regulations. It focuses on the strategies and measures organizations need to achieve net-zero emissions in their buildings.

Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET)
This course provides you with the skills you need to undertake energy modelling projects and achieve compliance with the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) using eQUEST or CAN-QUEST software.

Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET)
As buildings and building systems become more complex, the need for building commissioning becomes more important. Certified Building Commissioning Professionals possess the knowledge and skills to ensure optimal building performance and reduce operating and maintenance costs.
Who is eligible?
- individuals currently employed to provide commissioning services for new or existing commercial, institutional or industrial facilities in Ontario

Building Commissioning Association (BCA)
A detailed energy audit is the first step in understanding how a facility is using energy. Large commercial and industrial buildings can benefit from having a certified energy auditor assess facility systems, analyze and evaluate equipment and energy usage, and recommend strategies to reduce consumption and associated costs.

- individuals currently employed to provide energy auditing services for new or existing commercial, institutional or industrial facilities in Ontario

Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)
Energy managers create and implement energy management plans for a wide range of customers and facilities. Large commercial and institutional buildings benefit from having a certified energy manager provide strategies to reduce their carbon emissions and energy usage – directly contributing to improving the organization’s bottom line.
Who is eligible?
- individuals currently employed with an accountability for providing services in building operations and maintenance or energy management of a large commercial, institutional or industrial facility in Ontario
- individuals who have two or more years of experience working in an environment as specified above, OR who have one year of experience and one year of college-level education in a facilities operations and maintenance-related program

Certified Measurement and Verification Professionals provide organizations with the confidence that energy-efficiency projects deliver the savings that they promise. Their knowledge and skills help customers understand how projects have performed and encourage further investment in energy efficiency.
Who is eligible?
- individuals currently employed to provide measurement and verification services for electricity efficiency projects to commercial, institutional or industrial customers in Ontario

Certified Sustainable Building Operators and managers provide organizations with a holistic view of the impact of building mechanical and electrical systems on energy use, operational costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Who is eligible?
- individuals currently employed with an accountability for, or providing services for, energy management or building operations at a commercial, institutional or industrial facility, or facilities, in Ontario

- up to 50% or up to $1,500 of course fees for eligible participants

Whether your employees are new to energy management or already have some experience, the Dollars to $ense program is a great place to enhance their skillset. In this course, employees will learn how to build an energy management team, find energy-savings opportunities and create a project business case.

Buildings are complex and even small operational problems can have big impacts on performance. Recommissioning optimizes existing building systems to reduce energy use and improve performance. By becoming knowledgeable in building recommissioning you can increase tenant comfort, and reduce inefficiency linked to building performance and maintenance activities.

- individuals currently employed as a continuous optimization (RCx) service provider, recommissioning agent, building operator, energy manager or facility manager in an existing commercial, institutional or industrial facility in Ontario with a minimum size of 50,000 sq. ft.

Building Owners and Managers Institute of Canada (BOMI)

Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET)
Measurement and verification (M&V) is the process of using measurements to determine actual energy savings generated by energy management projects at individual sites. Common M&V activities include metering, data collection and processing, transparent savings calculations, monitoring, quality assurance and third-party report verifications.

This course follows the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) for implementing best practices in measurement and verification of energy-efficiency projects.

Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO)
