Food is family. And no one knows that better than Peter Knipfel. Peter operates a grocery store in the southwestern Ontario community of Chesley – where the grocer knows the cut of meat your family likes best and where the local grocery store is part of the fabric of the community.
“As a small business, we’re always looking for ways to differentiate our business from the big box stores and serve our customers better,” he said. “I figured because electricity is one of our biggest costs, I would see if
better energy management made a difference. That’s when I looked into the Business Refrigeration Incentives program.”
What Peter found out from speaking with his local hydro company, Hydro One, was that his store was eligible for a number of different Save on Energy incentives, including a free refrigeration assessment, free upgrades on LED light strips for display cases, new energy-efficient refrigeration fans, and refrigeration curtains – upgrades valued at approximately $2,500. Even better, the contractor agreed to do all the work around the store’s schedule so as not to inconvenience its patrons.
“I’m definitely going to reinvest the money I’m saving on hydro back into the business,” says Peter. “It’s money that will allow us to better serve our community.”
