With help from the Residential New Home Construction program, Ontario home builders and renovators can make their projects more energy efficient, delivering added value to potential buyers.

The Residential New Home Construction program provides funding for home builders and renovators to make their projects more energy efficient, right from the start.

There are three kinds of incentives: prescriptive, performance-based and custom. Whatever project ideas you have to make your build as energy efficient as possible, the Residential New Home Construction program can help you save on costs.

Who can participate?

Any home builder or renovator can enroll in the initiative if their new construction, or their extensive renovation to an existing building, requires a building permit and meets the additional criteria below.

How can I apply?

Step 1:

To get started with the Residential New Home Construction program, contact the local hydro company which services the building site. A representative will provide the worksheets and documents and help with your application.

Step 2:

Complete the Preliminary Application Project Worksheet and submit it to your local hydro company. The deadline to submit Preliminary Applications is December 19, 2018.

Home builders and renovators must obtain pre-approval from their participating local hydro company prior to framing or commencement of any structural work other than the pouring of a foundation.

Step 3:

Receive your approval to proceed from your local hydro company.

Step 4:

Complete construction.

Step 5:

Complete the Final Application Project Worksheet and Terms and Conditions, and submit it with supporting documentation to the local hydro company.

Key documents to be submitted

  • For prescriptive incentives
    Occupancy permits for every home.

    Please note building and occupancy permits are not required for final applications that include a combination of performance-based and prescriptive incentives.

  • For performance-based incentives
    The EnerGuide Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report for every home or a copy of the ENERGY STAR® Qualified New Home Certificate signed by a qualified energy advisor.

  • For custom incentives
    The completed Resource Planning Tool.

  • Receipts and invoices for project cost details
    Occupancy permits for every home.
