The energy-efficient new construction programs approach new homebuilding from different perspectives and they may offer tremendous homeowner benefits. Not all labels are available from every builder or in every community, so you may need to see what’s available in your preferred locale.

In terms of purchase price, this varies from label to label and from builder to builder. The important thing to remember is that these energy-efficient homes may cost less by reducing your monthly energy costs.  Look for these energy-efficient features when buying a new home.

Typically energy-efficient homes have sophisticated ventilation systems that help control moisture levels, bacteria, dust, pollen and more. Additionally the tight construction and ventilation design helps ensure homes are draft-free and don’t have cold/hot spots throughout the home.

Materials to be used in new home construction for areas such as building envelope, heating/cooling equipment, electrical are generally planned in advance. To help encourage builders to include energy-efficiency in their designs, the incentives are provided to them. The objective is that energy-efficiency will become the building standard, not just an option.

Purchasing an energy-efficient home is a long term investment with return. Energy usage may be lower as a result of more efficient equipment and may result in lower costs to you, the homeowner.
